KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Royals made a slew of moves with pitchers on their roster Wednesday, including one that sends another star pitcher toward a long-term injury list.
Left-hander Kris Bubic has been moved to the 60-day injured list, the Royals announced, following another setback during a rehab stint in Omaha.
He joins Opening Day starter Cole Ragans as two of Kansas City’s recent All-Star pitchers who have gone on the 60-day injured list this season. Bubic this season appeared in nine games, recording a 3-2 record and 4.11 ERA in his nine starts.
His last appearance for the Royals was on May 14 against the Chicago White Sox. The Royals have said Bubic was suffering from shoulder discomfort this season. He has already had Tommy John surgery during his career and was shut down due to injury in 2025 as well.
Bubic made a rehab start on June 9 and struggled through 1.1 innings, allowing 5 earned runs. He was supposed to make another rehab appearance with the Omaha Storm Chasers this week but instead is being transferred to the 60-day IL.
In other moves, the Royals optioned right-hander Eric Cerantola to Omaha a day after he walked six of the nine batters he faced in 1.1 innings of work against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Right-hander Connor Seabold, who was relieved by Cerantola on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium after he left the game due to injury, was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain.
Right-handed pitchers Jose Cuas and Randy Dobnak were selected from Triple-A to join the Royals roster. Cuas and Dobnak will be available Wednesday night as Kansas City takes on Tampa Bay in the second game of their three-game series.
