CHICAGO (WIFR) – Jim Anixter, a Chicago Cubs superfan known as The Pink Hat Guy, has died, according to his family.
He died on Tuesday, June 30, at 81 years old.
Anixter became known to Chicago Cubs fans for wearing a bright pink hat and green shirt while sitting behind home plate at Wrigley Field.
In an interview with CBS News Chicago in 2015, Anixter said he spent so much time at games, his wife, Leslie, would wonder where he actually was. That was when he began to wear the easily seen outfit to the ball games at Wrigley so she could spot him on TV.
While Anixter may be remembered by Cubs fans for his attire, his family notes his accomplishments in his obituary.
He served for 22 years as executive vice president of Anixter Brothers, a wholesale wire and cable distribution founded by his father and uncle.
In 1988, he founded AZ Wire and Cable.
Anixter was inducted into the Illinois Amateur Softball Hall of Fame in 1989 and was a sponsor of a team called the Anixter Bombers.
But his greatest pride was his family.
Every accomplishment, every success, and every joy in his life was secondary to the people he loved most. He devoted his life to his family, and they, in turn, devoted themselves to him. His love was steadfast, his guidance unwavering, and his presence a source of strength, laughter, and comfort. While his legacy will live on in business, sports, and throughout Chicago, the love he shared with his family will remain his greatest and most enduring achievement.
A service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, July 3, in Glencoe.
