ST. MARYS — After opening with a walk-off win over St. Marys/Potter McKean in their District 10 Junior Little League baseball opener, the Brookville All-Stars bowed out with two straight losses.

Last Saturday at Memorial Park, St. Marys/Potter McKean avenged its earlier loss last Tuesday with a 5-1 win.

Brookville managed just three hits off St. Marys/Potter McKean pitcher Joseph Welch as the hosts scored twice in the third inning and three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to set the final.

The lone Brookville run came in the top of the first as Kabe Kaltenbach walked and stole second and third before scoring on Seth Welsh’s groundout.

From there, Brookville couldn’t get much going as Welch struck out five and walked four. The three Brookville hits were all singles by Harris Whitling, Elliott Schrecengost and Max Barkley.

Cooper Peterson went all six innings on the mound for Brookville, giving up seven hits while walking three and striking out none.

At Stern Field in a makeup of the originally scheduled game for Thursday at McKinley Field, it was DuBois limiting Brookville to two hits in the winners’ bracket final matchup.

DuBois slugged out 14 hits, five of them going for extra bases, hitting the gaps on the turf and taking advantage of some speed. Two were inside-the-park homers as Landon Liddle led off the game with a four-bagger that skipped fast down the right-field line to the fence.

Then in the fifth with DuBois leading 4-2, Axton Carr’s liner to left field got under the glove of leftfielder Elliott Schrecengost and rolled to the fence for a grand slam to make it 8-2. He finished 3-for-3 a walk and three runs scored

That lead wound up being more than enough as the trio of Liddle, Logan Sopic and Mason Blasco held Brookville to just two hits.

Liddle started and went the first two innings, striking out two and walking one. Sopic worked 2 1/3 innings with six strikeouts and one walk while Blasco finished things out over the final 2 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking two while hitting a batter.

BrantLee Burney had both hits, singles, for Brookville. In the fourth, he led off with a single and scored thanks to two DuBois infield errors that led to a second unearned run. At that point, Brookville cut it to 4-2, but DuBois kept hitting.

Burney and Seth Welsh pitched for Brookville with Burney going the first four-plus innings and Welsh finishing the final three. Burney walked three and struck out one while Welsh didn’t walk or strike out anyone, but hit a batter.

Of DuBois’ 13 runs, only seven were earned as Brookville committed four errors, three of them in the seventh.
