The Texas Rangers and Budweiser plan to attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest glass of beer on Saturday, July 4, at Globe Life Field as part of the team’s Independence Day celebrations.
The centerpiece of the effort is a 12-foot-tall vinyl beer stein designed to hold 600 gallons of Budweiser lager, according to details announced by the Rangers. That volume would top the existing mark of 550 gallons, set in the United Kingdom on July 6, 2014.
Construction of the vessel began Wednesday night at the ballpark’s North Plaza, near Texas Live!, with crews finishing work Thursday morning ahead of the record attempt.
Filling of the stein is scheduled to start at noon on Saturday, with beer added from the bottom. The process is expected to wrap around 1:45 p.m. CDT, when an official adjudicator from Guinness World Records will be on site to verify the result.
Rangers vs. Tigers
The record attempt leads into the Rangers’ July 4 game against the Detroit Tigers at 3:05 p.m. CDT. The team has tied the event to the country’s 250th birthday and scheduled a series of holiday promotions at the ballpark.
The first 10,000 fans will receive an America’s 250th Birthday Rangers jersey, and handheld United States flags will be handed out to all fans entering the stadium.
Arrive Early for the Party
Ahead of the stein-filling event, a party on the North Plaza will kick off at 11 a.m. with music curated by a live DJ, pop-up bars, and a booth to create custom baseball cards. Chuck Morgan, the Ranger Hall of Fame public address announcer, will emcee the event. Free Budweiser-branded merchandise, such as towels, cups, and button pins, will be handed out.
Following the Guinness record verification, Budweiser products will be sold for $1.50 on the North Plaza from 1:50 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. CDT. A hot dog-eating contest is also set for the Comerica Backyard before first pitch.
