BOSTON — Marcelo Mayer will receive his first day off since being promoted to the majors.
The Red Sox will open a three-game series against the Angels at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
Romy Gonzalez — who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list earlier today after missing 22 games with a left quad contusion — will start at first base. Abraham Toro will play third base. Gonzalez is batting fifth and Toro is batting sixth.
Mayer had started all eight games at third base since his promotion.
Angels lefty Tyler Anderson (2-2, 3.39 ERA) will start opposite Red Sox righty Richard Fitts (0-2, 2.70 ERA).
Rob Refsnyder will play right field. Wilyer Abreu is not in the lineup.
Refsnyder has gone 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and walk in his career vs. Anderson. Rafael Devers is 3-for-7 with a home run, two RBIs and one strikeout vs. the 35-year-old lefty.
