After receiving a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed in the Section 2AA Tournament, the Le Sueur-Henderson baseball team hosted Maple River Tuesday night in the second round of the postseason. Led by an excellent performance on the mound from Peyton Tellijohn, the Giants managed to scrape together a pair of runs and earn a 2-1 victory to advance to the section quarterfinals.
Tellijohn pitched the complete game, allowing one run on six hits while striking out three and walking one to earn the win.

It was a defensive game from the word go, but LS-H struck in the bottom of the first inning when Joe Lewis hit a bases loaded RBI single into left field. The great scoring chance was shut down with a strikeout and groundout though, stranding three men on the bases.
The following innings would see a single batter reach safely at most until the top of the fifth inning when the Eagles strung together back-to-back singles and an RBI sac fly to tie the game 1-1. The Giants got out of the inning with a groundout to shortstop and a fly out to center field.
With the game now tied and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Corbin Guggisberg stepped up to the plate and blasted a 1-0 pitch over the left field fences to regain the lead for LS-H 2-1. In the top of the seventh, with Maple River playing with just three outs remaining, they drew a leadoff walk to put additional pressure on the Giants defense and get Tellijohn to pitch out of the stretch.
He struck out the next batter and forced a groundout to third base for the second out of the inning. The next at-bat resulted in a ground ball to Ethan Hoffman at shortstop and with that, the Giants survived to earn the 2-1 win.
Lewis led the team in hits with two and an RBI as the team finished with just six.
LS-H will now host Tri-City United Thursday, May 28, in the section quarterfinals with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. The Giants and Titans played each other two weeks ago in Montgomery and LS-H earned the 6-1 victory in that game. The winner Thursday will advance to the semifinal game in Waterville while the losing team will enter the elimination bracket.
