CHEYENNE – The Cheyenne Sixers overcame five defensive errors to beat Parker Lightning 4-2 to close out pool play at the Mark Robért Classic on Saturday evening at Powers Field.

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the fourth inning. Cheyenne pulled ahead 3-2 on a steal of home by junior Quentin King.

King led the Sixers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Demitri Cotton also had a hit and an RBI.

Senior right-hander Kian McDonough went the distance on the mound, striking out three and scattering six hits. He didn’t walk any batters, and none of the runs he surrendered was earned.

Cheyenne (44-10-1) face Laramie at 10:30 a.m. today at Powers Field.

Hawks close Robért Classic with loss

CHEYENNE – The Cheyenne Hawks notched just three hits during a 3-1 loss to Fort Collins, Colorado, to close pool play at the Mark Robért Classic on Saturday evening at Pioneer Park.

All of the runs were scored during the first inning.

Troy Nelson plated Cheyenne’s lone run with a double in the opening frame. Kellin Wenzel and Damien Harwell also had singles for Cheyenne (33-13).

Ayden Gamo went six innings on the mound, striking out two and walking two. He gave up eight hits and just one earned run.

Boston Erickson worked the final inning in relief, striking out one and giving up no hits.

The Hawks play a doubleheader at Gering, Nebraska, starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
