LOS ANGELES — Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy was not named National League player of the week on Monday, as that award went to a red-hot Christian Yelich of the Brewers, who hit .500/.545/1.000. But Muncy had a great week in his own right.

Muncy hit .368/.409/1.000 for the week with an NL-leading 12 runs batted in. Muncy’s four home runs tied for the NL lead, with teammate Shohei Ohtani.

The highlight for Muncy came on Saturday against the Yankees, when Muncy had three hits, including a pair of three-run home runs and tied a career high with seven RBI. The first of those home runs on Saturday was the 200th of Muncy’s career.

Seven RBI on Saturday tied Muncy’s career high, also done on April 10, 2023 against the Giants in San Francisco.

After not hitting a home run in his first 28 games and 105 plate appearances this season, the longest power drought of Muncy’s career, he has seven home runs over his last 27 games and 109 plate appearances.

“The last several weeks have been really good for me,” Muncy said. “[Saturday] was a very good game. Trying to build on it, and keep the momentum moving forward.”

Muncy’s hot streak not only coincided with him starting to wear glasses, which he says relieves some of the pressure on his left eye, but also cutting his strikeout rate in half over the last month or so.

“The mechanics, the wings his much better, it’s shorter. With that, he’s not over striding, not getting too long. The approach part of it, he’s taking balls and swinging at strikes,” manager Dave Roberts said. “He’s using the whole field, which I haven’t see him do since ‘21 consistently, and he’s keeping the ball fair.”
