Luis Mey talks MLB debut after finishing off 9-1 win vs. Cardinals
Cincinnati Reds prospect and reliever Luis Mey struck out the first batter he faced in his MLB debut, and pitched a clean ninth inning
The Cincinnati Reds‘ Santiago Espinal was batting in the bottom of the 7th inning of Friday’s series-opening win against the Washington Nationals at Great American Ball Park when Espinal fouled a ball into the first row of seats on the first-base side.
Nats first baseman Nathaniel Lowe pursued the foul pop-up, and didn’t appear to put on the brakes for the GABP tarp, covered in a Gorilla Glue ad. He went hard into the tarp and toppled into the first row of seats.
“Oh, look out! Oh mercy,” Fanduel Sports Network reporter Jim Day said during the broadcast. “This is just painful to watch. I am so thankful he’s OK.”
Lowe was helped to his feet, and stayed in the game. But Cut4 had fun at his expense with a video retweeted by the official MLB account, captioned, “1 man vs. a gorilla.”
