A young Royals star will participate in Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby next week. Jac Caglianone announced Wednesday that he will join other power hitters around the league at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on July 13 for the 2026 Home Run Derby. The Home Run Derby is an annual hitting competition among eight star players in the MLB. Caglianone becomes the sixth Royal to participate in the contest. He follows Bo Jackson in 1989, Danny Tartabull in 1991, Mike Moustakas in 2017, Salvador Perez in 2021 and Bobby Witt Jr. in 2024. No Royal has ever won the derby, but Witt came close in 2024, hitting 50 home runs and landing as the runner-up. Caglianone has recorded a team-high of 14 home runs in 85 games while in his first full season in the MLB. His 14 home runs have an average distance of 418 feet, the Royals said, which is tied for the best average in the league this season. While at the University of Florida, Caglianone set the school’s single-season home run record with 35 home runs, and the career record of 75 home runs. He participated in the 2024 Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby.
