CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Ft. Dorchester alum Banks Wickersham became the 2nd player from the Lowcountry to be selected in the MLB Draft on Sunday when he was taken in the 14th round by the Kansas City Royals.
Wickersham, who’s signed to go play at the College of Charleston, was taken with the 419th overall pick.
The catcher hit over .500 in his senior season with the Patriots which included 15 extra base hits, 2 of those were homeruns.
He was also solid on the mound collecting 29 strikeouts in 22.1 innings of work.
James Island’s Taj Marchand was taken with the 33rd overall pick on Saturday going to the Tampa Bay Rays.
