DULUTH, Minn. (KQDS-TV)- It was the annual MLB draft this weekend as baseball players all over the country hoped to be picked.
One of the players that heard their name called was former Duluth East Greyhound and Duluth Husky Charlie Sutherland.
The utilityman goes to the Seattle Mariners at pick number 460 in round 15.
Sutherland just wrapped up his junior season with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, where he led the team in total hits and RBI’s. He also had 11 home runs, 11 doubles, and 56 runs batted in.
In addition to Sutherland, five other former Huskies were taken off the board this weekend.
Outfielder Paul Contreras was the first to go as he went to the Yankees in the 4th round.
Three rounds later, pitcher Carson Turnquist became an Arizona Diamondback.
Then in round 13, outfielder Michael Smith Jr goes to the Padres.
To close things out, pitcher Colin Linder was picked by the Marlins in round 15 and another pitcher in Albert Roblez is selected by the Padres in the 16th round.
