ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – St. Louis Cardinals manager Oli Marmol will join the All-Star coaching staff in Philadelphia.
Marmol told All Access Baseball the invitation came from Dave Roberts while the Dodgers were in town for a series.
“Durham BP just came up and extended the invitation to join him and the coaching staff in Philly, which was pretty cool,” Marmol recalled. “And immediately took it to Amber and the girls and made sure that everyone was on the same page as far as using that time to go do that, and it was a no-brainer.”
Marmol, who turned 40 on July 2, said the honor was not lost on him.
“This isn’t an opportunity that comes around too often, and it’s an honor to just be asked,” he said. “I’m excited about it, the family’s excited about it, and definitely thankful for Dave inviting me.”
Marmol credited Roberts as a meaningful presence throughout his managerial career, describing their interactions as substantive rather than surface-level.
Along with Marmol’s coaching nod, Cardinals players Riley O’Brien and Jordan Walker were both selected to the All-Star Game. Mamol said the news was delivered to O’Brien by Dusty in front of the full clubhouse.
