The Little League Baseball season is entering an important stretch as local district champs are now taking their talents to larger diamonds.
Three clubs, of varying age groups, are representing Greenville this week on the road in hopes of taking home state championship trophies.
At the 8-10 tourney, Tar Heel beat Wilson 6-4 in Monday’s semifinals. The team advanced to the title game, set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Huntersville.
North State (9-11) has a state tournament date with Bull City LL Friday at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, North State (10-12) is also in the state tourney and faces either Winston-Salem National or South Durham at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Both North State squads play at the J. Burt Athletic Complex Field in Wilson.
Yard Gnomes drafted
This past weekend saw two former players from the Greenville Yard Gnomes drafted by MLB organizations Sunday.
Wills Maginnis went in the 11th round to the Boston Red Sox. In 2024, he posted a .300 batting average and 14 RBIs through 21 games in Greenville.
Brian Garmon was snagged by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 444th overall pick. The righty posted 16 strikeouts through 12 games as a Yard Gnome between 2024-25.
Legion series delayed
Pitt County Post 39’s American Legion Baseball playoffs series against Wilson Post 13 was delayed due to bad weather.
The best-of-five Area I East final was supposed to begin in Wilson Monday, but wet weather postponed the matchup. Tuesday was the rescheduled start date.
Wednesday evening is when the series comes to Pitt, hosted at South Central High. The East final winner receives an automatic bid to the state tournament.
