PHILADELPHIA – Drake Meeks’ dream came true when his name got called during the 2026 MLB Draft, giving him a chance to play professional baseball.
Meeks was selected by the Detroit Tigers with the 546th pick in the 18th round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday, July 12 in Philadelphia.
The Briarwood Christian alum and former Southern Miss pitcher was one of two Shelby County players to be drafted in 2026, joining Chelsea’s Grant Hill, who was drafted out of high school in the seventh round by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Meeks made seven appearances with the Golden Eagles in 2026 in his redshirt sophomore season. He finished with 5.2 innings total and allowed five earned runs, nine total runs, nine strikeouts and five walks.
