HIGHTSTOWN — In this last week of the 2026 regular season, the Broad Street Park Post 313 baseball team has made itself into the hottest team in Mercer County American Legion League.

Suddenly a team that seemed to be struggling looks like it will be in the postseason mix.

Manager Mike Glazewski’s squad started quickly, then finished strong to pull off its second straight upset this week by defeating Hightstown Post 148, 6-5, Tuesday at Hightstown High.

BSP is now 6-11 and in seventh place with one game remaining Wednesday at Hamilton High West against league leader Allentown. Currently, six MCALL teams will move on to district play, but if a drops out in any of the four districts, Mercer (the state’s biggest league) figures to get another team.

For now, however, Post 313 plans on playing its way in, as it has shown with back-to-back upset victories over Bordentown Post 26 and Post 148.

“We’re finally finding our stride,” Broad St. Park catcher A.J. Zuccarello said. “Earlier in the season, we’d either have our bats or our gloves working. Now we have both.”

The visitors set the tone for yesterday’s game in the top of the first inning when they opened with three straight hits by Luke Radoslovich, Simeon McDaniel and Bobby Lipsett (run batted in). Chris Whalen grounded out to the pitcher, but knocked in another run before Zuccarello singled to give Post 313 a 3-0 jump.

The lead grew to 4-0 when Whalen led off with a double and was singled in by Zuccarello after a stolen base.

“I wasn’t worried about Luke,” The College of New Jersey-bound Zuccarello said of starting pitcher Radoslovich. “He’s been consistent in everything he does for us.”

Even though Hightstown (9-5) came back to chase Radoslovich by the fifth inning when it took a 5-4 lead, the talented 16-year-old moved to center field and came up with a couple of nice catches out there, including a diving dazzler in the bottom of the sixth to get his team out of a bases-loaded jam unscathed.

Radoslovich also went 4-for-4 with a two-out triple to right field that chased home Henry Jimenez (hit-by-pitch) with the tying run in the top of the sixth. He then scored the winning run on an errant relay throw.

“We know we should have played better as a team,” Post 148 outfielder Danny Krier said. “We’ll need to do that the rest of this week and in districts to make an impact.”

Mercer County Community College-bound Krier, batting out of the No. 3 hole, had a sacrifice fly in the third as the home team drew as close as 4-3. In the fifth inning, he singled over a drawn-in infield to tie the game before cleanup hitter Devon Decker (3-for-4, triple, two RBIs) singled Krier in to give Hightstown a 5-4 lead.

Simeon McDaniel moved to the mound in the fifth and kept his team hot by holding manager Doug Herrin’s club scoreless the rest of the way with the help of some big defensive plays like the unassisted double play shortstop Chris Whalen turned after Decker and Kamau Taylor opened the bottom of the seventh with singles.
