Andrew McCutchen wants to get back to the major leagues.
The Pittsburgh Pirates legend is starting at the bottom of the ladder to try and make it happen with a new organization.
McCutchen had recently been let go by the Texas Rangers and subsequently signed with the Atlanta Braves.
To allow McCutchen to get tuned up again after a bit of time off following his Rangers release, the Braves sent him down to the Florida Complex League, which is the Rookie-level of the minor leagues, the lowest rung.
McCutchen has played three games there so far and is 1-for-7 with a double. He has also driven in a run while walking three times and striking out once.

Obviously, it’s a small sample size and not worth reading too deeply into, but it’ll be worth watching to see when Atlanta may promote McCutchen higher in the minor leagues to try and prove he’s ready for another MLB opportunity.
McCutchen got 83 plate appearances this season for the Rangers before his release, and in that time, he hit .192, so there’s no guarantee of long-term success in Atlanta.
He’s a long way removed from his days as NL MVP with the Pirates, when he was the best player of his era in Pittsburgh.
McCutchen is now 39 years old and is probably better served as a DH.
It’d still be cool to see him eventually back in the major leagues once more.
Could Andrew McCutchen play against the Pirates?
The Pirates actually do not play against the Braves the rest of the regular season.
To meet McCutchen, he’d either have to end up on yet another team, or he’d have to help Atlanta into the playoffs and potentially see Pittsburgh there.
