Reports: Reds, All-Star starting pitcher Chase Burns agree to 7-year extension

The Cincinnati Reds and All-Star starting pitcher Chase Burns have reportedly agreed to a contract extension for more than $100 million.
According to multiple reports, including MLB.com and The Athletic, Burns and the Reds are in agreement on a seven-year, $105 million deal.
Reports said the deal will begin in 2027 and run through 2033, with no options or deferrals included. The Reds haven’t officially announced the deal.
The contract is tied for the largest ever given to a Reds pitcher, with Burns’ $105 million equaling the money given to Homer Bailey when he signed an extension with the club in 2014.
Burns’ reported contract is also the third largest in Reds’ history, behind Joey Votto ($225 million) and Ken Griffey Jr. ($116.5 million.)
Burns, 23, has quickly become one of the top starters in his first full season in Major League Baseball, pitching to a 2.54 ERA with 118 strikeouts in 18 starts this season.
Burns joined third baseman Sal Stewart as the Reds’ representatives at the MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia this week but didn’t pitch in the game after suffering a groin injury last week.
The extension will lock Burns in with Cincinnati for the next seven seasons, giving Cincinnati two top of the rotation arms for the long haul, alongside Hunter Greene.
