KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Major League Baseball could be on the verge of shutting down over labor talks between owners and the MLB Players’ Association, but that isn’t stopping the league from putting out schedules for next season.
On Thursday, the Kansas City Royals were among MLB teams to share their 2027 schedule.
Here are the key notes on what to know for next year, if things remain on schedule.
Opening Day returns to Kauffman
The Royals began the 2026 season with Opening Day in Atlanta against the Braves. Next year’s Opening Day, scheduled for Thursday, March 25, against the Minnesota Twins, would be the earliest Opening Day in franchise history.
It will be the 10th time in the last 13 seasons that the Royals have opened the season in Kansas City.
A three-game series with the Chicago White Sox at Kauffman will follow, before the Royals head on the road a week later to be the guests for the St. Louis Cardinals’ home-opener.
Divisional matchups
Kansas City is scheduled to play the Twins and Cleveland Guardians for seven home games and six road games, while they’ll play the White Sox and Detroit Tigers six times at home and seven times on the road.
The Royals and Guardians will meet for six of their 13 matchups in the final two weeks of the season.
Holiday games
The Royals will host the Twins on Easter Sunday (March 28), the Toronto Blue Jays on Mother’s Day (May 9) and the Detroit Tigers on the Fourth of July.
They’ll be on the road for Memorial Day (Yankees), Father’s Day (Astros) and Labor Day (Sacramento A’s).
Other notes
The All-Star Game will be played at Wrigley Field and make the All-Star Break July 12-15.
The longest stretch of consecutive games for Kansas City will be June 18-July 4, when the Royals will play on 17 straight days.
