The Waverly Post 142 Shockers began postseason play in Region 3 (Districts 4, 7, 8) of the 2026 American Legion Senior Baseball Tournament Thursday morning.

Participants in the five-team tournament were Waverly Post 142, Chillicothe Post 757, Harrison/Benson Post 199, Lancaster Post 11 and Millersport Post 128. The tournament is double elimination. The winner moves on to the state tournament in Lancaster.

The Shockers lost their opener to Lancaster Post 11 by a score of 6-0 but rallied in the nightcap to defeat Millersport 10-9 in extra innings. They were scheduled to play again Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. but the final result was not ready at press time.

Game 1 vs. Lancaster Post 11

Lancaster jumped on the Shockers early, generating three runs in the top of the first inning. Lancaster added another run in the top of the third inning and then tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Shockers were limited to four hits. Quinton Allen was responsible for two of them, finishing his day 2-for-3. Parker Robinson finished 1-for-1 and also worked a walk. Samuel Struckel was 1-for-3.

Game 2 vs. Millersport 128

The second game of the day was a different story for the Shockers who won a back-and-forth battle in extra innings, 10-9.

Millersport had the first big inning, generating four runs in the bottom of the second. The Shockers had an answer, responding with five runs in the top half of the third inning. Andrew Oyer led off with a bunt single, dived back to first three times on pickoff attempts, and then stole second base, scoring on a Thad Lansing single. Caeleb Cox walked to put two runners on for Nolan Barnett, who doubled to send them both home, cutting the Millersport lead down to one, 4-3. Landon Remy followed with a single. When Quinton Allen reached on an error, Barnett and Remy both had the chance to score, briefly giving Post 142 the lead at 5-4.

That lead didn’t stick as Millersport responded with a run in the bottom of the third inning to tie it, and added another in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up 6-5.

Once again, Waverly had a response. Samuel Struckel led off with a single and scored when Nolan Barnett tripled, tying the game. Landon Remy followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Barnett to give his team the 7-6 lead.

Defensively, the Shockers took the Millersport batters down in order in the bottom of the fifth inning. Then the Shockers added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Oyer drew a one-out walk and scored when Cox reached on a two-out error. Struckel doubled to send Cox home, opening up a 9-6 lead.

Millersport started its comeback bid with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and added another run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 9-9 and force extra innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Shockers did what they needed to do to get the lead. Oyer worked a leadoff walk, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and then stole third base. He scored after tagging up when Cox hit a fly ball into foul territory in right field, making the score 10-9.

Millersport threatened in the bottom of the eighth inning with a pair of one-out singles, but the Shockers got out of the jam with a fielder’s choice and a final strikeout from Remy on the hill.

Barnett and Struckel led the charge from the plate. They both had a double and a triple. Struckel finished 3-for-5 with a run, a stolen base and an RBI. Barnett was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Oyer finished 1-for-2 with three runs and four stolen bases. Remy was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Lansing went 1-for-5 with a run, a stolen base and an RBI. Allen had two RBIs and Cox had one. Cox also stole a base. 

Oyer pitched the first 5.1 innings, giving up eight runs, six of which were earned, on eight hits, while striking out three and walking two. Remy pitched 2.2 innings in relief and picked up the win, giving up one run on three hits, while striking out two and walking one.
