The Pittsburgh Pirates were off but the front office made a move on Monday, claiming infielder-outfielder Ronny Simon off waivers from the Miami Marlins.Simon, 25, has played in only 19 games at the major league level, batting .234 with five RBI, .327 on-base percentage and .277 slugging. The Pirates optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.Simon was designated for assignment by Miami on Friday, just days after the switch-hitting rookie made three errors in three innings in a game against the Padres.To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed reliever Tanner Rainey was designated for assignment by the Pirates. Rainey (0-1, 10.57 ERA) was the losing pitcher for Pittsburgh on Sunday in San Diego.After going 3-3 on a road trip out west, the Pirates are back at PNC Park for the longest homestand of the season. They will host the Houston Astros on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series.
