SAN DIEGO – After falling in the 2025 CIF-San Diego Section’s Divisional III Championship game on Saturday, the Southwest High Eagle softball team will open play in the CIF-State Division III Southern California Regional Tournament today, Tuesday, June 3rd, at Ventura College at 4:00 pm.

After having defeated the top-seeded CIF-SDS Division III Canyon Hills High twice last week and eliminating them from the playoffs, Southwest lost to Chula Vista’s Olympian High Eagles by a score of 7-0 for the D-III crown on Saturday, May 31st, at the University of California-San Diego’s Triton Softball Field

The Division III fourth-seeded Southwest Eagles had a tough game at the plate against the upstart D-III seventh-seeded Olympians, who won the CIF Divisional Title behind a no-hit, shut-out pitching of sophomore Alexandra Perez.

Southwest only had four base runners in the game, as Perez walked two, hit an Eagle with a pitch, and another reached base on an error.

Meanwhile, the Olympians’ offense, which scored two runs, one unearned, in the top of the first inning, had ten hits, including a triple and three doubles, against Southwest’s freshman pitcher Alexis Trujillo, who struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Today, the CIF-SDS D-III runner-up Eagles (19-9, 10-2 IVL) are seeded sixth in the So Cal Regionals and will face the St. Bonaventure Seraphs (18-11) of Ventura, who won the CIF-Southern Section Division V championship on Saturday.

The Seraphs’ unique nickname/logo, by the way, is short for the singular or plural noun seraphim, which in Judaism and Christianity are the 6-winged angels standing in the presence of God.

The Eagles-Seraphs match-up should be a good one, as maxpreps.com has Southwest ranked 240th overall in California and St. Bonnie’s #258.

Southwest, which has a 9-5 record in away games, is led statistically this season by senior Kaydence Wiewel, who leads the Eagles in batting average (.433), on-base percentage (.542), and slugging percentage (1.045).

Tickets for today’s game are only available digitally at the CIF-State ticketing partner, gofan.com.

The game reportedly will be live-streamed and also be available on a replay basis on The NFHS Network. For more information, visit www.nfhsnetwork.com/associations/cif_state.
