Ryan Johnson struck out five and allowed one run in five solid innings, Jorge Soler and Zach Neto delivered RBI hits and the Los Angeles Angels snapped a four-game skid with a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. Johnson (2-4) allowed two hits and walked three. The right-hander escaping a basesloaded, two-out jam in the fifth when he struck out Dillon Dingler with an 82-mph sweeper. Samy Natera Jr., Chase Silseth and Sam Bachman worked scoreless innings of relief. Riley Greene and Kevin McGonigle homered for Detroit.
White Sox 3, Blue Jays 0 – Burke and 2 relievers combine on 4-hitter as White Sox beat Blue Jays 3-0
Sean Burke and two relievers combined on a four-hitter, Colson Montgomery hit his 24th home run and the Chicago White Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0. Braden Montgomery had two hits and an RBI as the White Sox bounced back from Saturday’s 1-0 loss to take two of three from the Blue Jays. Toronto scored five total runs in the series. Bryan Hudson got four outs and Grant Taylor finished for his fifth save in eight chances.
Cubs 10, Twins 1 – Imanaga throws 7 shutout innings and Cubs roll to 10-1 win over Twins
Shota Imanaga pitched seven shutout innings and Nico Hoerner had a bases-loaded triple and four RBIs to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 10-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Alex Bregman hit a two-run homer in the first and Imanaga took over from there, allowing six hits with one walk before leaving after 99 pitches. The left-hander has gone a season-high seven innings four times, also shutting out the Diamondbacks in a win on May 2.

Spain substitute Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute to give his team a 1-0 win over defending champion Argentina in the World Cup final. Spain was absolutely dominant in terms of possession and shot attempts. Lionel Messi and Argentina found a way to hang on and force extra time — but barely. And in the opening moment of the second 15-minute period of extra time, Torres pounced on a bouncing ball in the box and used his left foot to bury a shot just under the crossbar and into the back of the net.
FIFA – Mbappé wins Golden Boot, and Spain’s Rodri gets Golden Ball with World Cup title
France’s Kylian Mbappé kept the Golden Boot award and Spain wouldn’t let Lionel Messi get anything else. Shortly after winning the World Cup title Sunday, the Spaniards claimed all three individual player awards, keeping Messi from leaving with any more personal hardware. Rodri won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, Unai Simón won the Golden Glove for the top performance by a goalkeeper, and Pau Cubarsí won the Best Young Player Award, beating out fellow 19-year-old teammate Lamine Yamal.

Dream 93, Sky 91 – Dream beat Sky 93-91 on Canada’s layup at buzzer after losing star Angel Reese to knee injury
Jordin Canada made a layup at the buzzer and the Atlanta Dream bounced back after squandering a 22-point lead and losing star Angel Reese due to a knee injury, beating the Chicago Sky 93-91. The victory was Atlanta’s seventh straight over Chicago. Reese’s knee buckled when she came to a jump stop under the basket early in the fourth quarter and she fell to the ground as she missed the layup. Atlanta has won three straight and four of its last five following a five-game skid.
Golf – Ryan Fox wins the British Open with a birdie on the final hole
Ryan Fox capped off an amazing week at the British Open with a finish he won’t forget. The 39-year-old from New Zealand made a 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a 68 to capture his first major championship. It was only the fifth birdie on the tough closing hole at Royal Birkdale on Sunday. It gave Fox a one-shot victory over hard-luck Cameron Young. The American shot a 64 and waited more than two hours to see if it would hold up. It almost did until Fox kept bouncing back from bogeys and finished with a birdie.
NASCAR – Joey Logano ends victory drought at North Wilkesboro
Joey Logano held off Denny Hamlin for his first NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season Sunday night in the first points race at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 30 years. Logano won for the 38th time in Cup, ending a 45-race drought that went back to May 2025 at Texas Motor Speedway. The 36-year-old Logano extended his streak of winning at least one race to 15 consecutive seasons, the longest streak among active drivers. The late Kyle Busch holds the record, winning in 19 straight seasons (2005-2023). Hamlin finished second, followed by Chase Briscoe, Ty Gibbs and Shane Shane Van Gisbergen.
NCAA – Senator Says College Sports Bill Likely Has Votes to Pass Senate
A lawmaker sponsoring a key piece of federal college sports legislation says he believes the bill likely has the support it needs to make it through the upper chamber. Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri said he thinks the Protect College Sports Act probably has the 60 votes it needs to pass the Senate. Schmitt called the next two weeks critical for the Protect College Sports Act. He said leaders from the Southeastern and Big Ten Conferences, both of which oppose the bill as it is written, have met with the top sponsors to negotiate changes in the bill in an effort to gather their support.
