SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — Kingston High product Landon Van Gaasbeck drove in two runs to lead Kingston-Saugerties Legion’s Senior baseball team to an 8-4 victory over the Newburgh Nuclears on Sunday to keep its hopes alive for a District 9 baseball championship.
Kingston-Saugerties dropped its opener 1-0 to the Rockland Pirates in the double-elimination tournament earlier in the day at Cantine Field.
Kingston-Saugerties was scheduled to face the Rockland County team again on Monday, July 20, at Lorenz Field in Saugerties. With a win, the local Legion team would advance later in the evening to play undefeated Chester. With a loss, Kingston-Saugerties will be eliminated from the district tournament.
