The Le Sueur Braves took the field last Wednesday the 15th to take on the Shakopee Coyotes. The Coyotes might be at the bottom of the standings but you never know what type of a team might show up, especially since Shakopee just played Jordan the previous evening and lost only 5-2.
Jordan Sinell got the start for the Braves and ran into a jam early. After surrendering a soft single and getting a pop up to second the next two batters were then hit and walked to load the bases. A soft single to center would give the visitors an early lead. By virtue of a double play led by Sam Gupton, Sinell was able to get out of his one inning of work.

In the bottom of the first, the offense for Le Sueur exploded. Jake Poppitz got the start for the Coyotes and did not have the best of command. Burke Nesbit led things off with an infield single and a stolen base. Tyler Pengilly would then collect his first of five singles on the day and place runners at the corner.
Cole Pengilly would then follow it up by driving a double to deep center, far enough the centerfielder took a bad read on it allowing the Braves to tie the game. The Braves would proceed to collect singles from Gupton, Tristen O’Brien and Ethan Hathaway. In total the Braves would score five runs in the 1st and would bat around the order.
Sinell would give way to Cayden Luna on the mound and he would have a good day on the bump going six innings, collecting ten ground balls and allowing Cole Pengilly to make some great plays in the field at shortstop. He would allow only one unearned run in the fifth.
Le Sueur would score two more in the 3rd inning by hits by O’Brien and Hathaway and Charlie Weick would reach first by being hit by a pitch. Shakopee was a little careless with the ball at times, having three errors in the contest.
In the fourth inning, Tyler Pengilly would lead off with a single and would be followed up by a Cole Pengilly triple to the right center gap to make the score 8-1. Gupton would then drive in Cole with a sacrifice fly to left.
With the score 9-2 going into the bottom of the seventh Le Sueur would need three more runs to get the 10-run rule into effect. The Braves would do so by collecting three walks, a hit by pitch and a game clinching single by Tyler Pengilly to end the game.
The team is now 12-6 overall and 10-3 in District 3B playoffs. The Braves had last weekend off to attend Manager Burke Nesbit’s wedding but were back in action this past Wednesday when they traveled to Prior Lake to face the Mudcats (results unavailable at press time).
