CLEVELAND (AP) — Austin Hedges and Petey Halpin hit sacrifice flies in the sixth inning as the Cleveland Guardians, a night after hitting seven homers, used small ball to beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2 on Tuesday for a third straight victory.
Cleveland starter Parker Messick allowed two runs — one earned — on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter before leaving with a runner on second. Colin Holderman (5-2) got the final out in the inning to qualify for the win.
Hunter Gaddis pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings before Cade Smith closed it out in the ninth for his 29th save — tops in the majors.

Ryan Jeffers hit his ninth homer, a two-out shot off Messick in the first for a 1-0 lead.
Hedges walked leading off the third against Kendry Rojas and scored on a double by Steven Kwan to tie it. Mike Paredes (0-3) replaced Rojas and surrendered an RBI single to Brayan Rocchio to put Cleveland up 2-1.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Max Muncy hit a two-run homer, Justin Wrobleski pitched into the seventh inning and Los Angeles beat Zack Wheeler and Philadelphia.
The Phillies ran themselves out of a potential winning rally in the ninth after putting men on second and third with one out, with the Dodgers capitalizing to complete a 5-2-6-4 double play to end the game.
Shohei Ohtani had one of five hits for the Dodgers, who snapped a two-game skid.
Alec Bohm singled twice, doubled and drove in a run for the Phillies.

Wrobleski (11-2) struck out seven and allowed five hits in 6 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old lefty was pitching in Philadelphia for the second time in a week after striking out five in two innings during last Tuesday’s All-Star Game.
Tanner Scott got the final five outs for his 15th save after the Phillies helped him escape a jam.
TORONTO (AP) — Nick Fortes and Yandy Díaz each hit a three-run homer, Jonny DeLuca added two hits and three RBIs and Tampa Bay had a season-high 21 hits in a rout of slumping Toronto.

Ben Williamson and Chandler Simpson each had four hits for the AL East-leading Rays, and Junior Caminero went 2 for 3 with three walks.
Drew Rasmussen (8-5) allowed two runs and seven hits in five-plus innings as the Rays won for the seventh time in eight meetings with the Blue Jays.
Fortes went 3 for 5 with four RBIs. His homer off Lazaro Estrada in the fifth inning was his fourth of the season and second in two games.

ATLANTA (AP) — Manny Machado homered twice, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit the longest home run in the majors this season, and San Diego Padres beat Atlanta to even a four-game road series at 1-1.
Tatis’ two-run shot in the eighth traveled 474 feet. The previous longest of the season was a 473-foot shot by Braves catcher Drake Baldwin.
San Diego took the lead in the first when Ty France singled to center field, driving in Tatis.

Atlanta responded with a two-run second inning before the Padres regained momentum with three runs in the fourth. Jackson Merrill homered, while Tatis and Luis Rengifo each drove in a run.
Braves manager Walt Weiss opted to keep pitcher Reynaldo López (4-3, 3.50 ERA) on the mound to start the fifth. Right-hander JR Ritchie relieved López after Machado hit his second homer of the night to lead off the inning.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Luinder Avila struck out a career-high seven and Nick Loftin hit a tiebreaking RBI single as Kansas City beat San Francisco.
Avila (5-3) allowed five hits and two runs in 6 1/3 innings. It was the longest outing in 10 career starts for the 24-year-old right-hander. Matt Strahm, John Schreiber and Alex Lange worked hitless innings of relief. Lange struck out two in the ninth inning and earned his ninth save.
Giants starter Tyler Mahle (2-9) struck out four and allowed five hits and three earned runs in five innings.
Carter Jensen opened the scoring with a solo homer in the bottom of the third. It was Jensen’s 14th homer of the season and the fifth straight game that the Royals have homered.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Zac Thornton earned his first career win by combining with three relievers on a four-hitter as New York blanked Milwaukee.
Jared Young and Luis Robert Jr. homered to help the Mets snap Milwaukee’s four-game winning streak. Robert’s solo shot off Bryse Wilson in the eighth was a titanic 451-foot drive to left-center for his first hit since missing nearly three months with a back injury.
Backed by terrific defense, Thornton (1-1) allowed three hits and one walk while striking out two over six innings in his fourth major league start. It was the second consecutive scoreless outing for the 24-year-old left-hander, who has thrown 18 straight shutout innings — the longest streak by a Mets rookie since Steven Matz went 19 innings in 2016.

CHICAGO (AP) — Pete Crow-Armstrong reached five times on two hits and three walks, helping Chicago beat Framber Valdez and Detroit.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Kumar Rocker pitched one-hit ball over six innings for his first win in his last 10 games, Brandon Nimmo homered among his four hits and the Texas Rangers routed the Chicago White Sox 10-0 on Tuesday night.

Nimmo’s two-run shot in the first inning, his 10th homer of the season, put the Rangers ahead. No. 9 batter Alejandro Osuna drove in three runs and had three singles, and Wyatt Langford also hit a two-run homer.
A night after losing the series opener 10-3, the Rangers (51-50) finished with a season-high 18 hits and avoided falling below .500 for the first time since June 27. They are 9-4 following a loss of at least six runs.
Rocker (3-8) struck out six and walked two. The only hit off him was rookie All-Star Munetaka Murakami’s single leading off the fourth.

HOUSTON (AP) — Jeremy Peña and Isaac Paredes hit home runs, Tatsuya Imai struck out eight in six innings, and Houston beat Miami.
Imai (6-4) worked his fifth start with eight or more strikeouts and allowed one run on four hits and three walks. The 28-year-old rookie from Japan has surrendered three or fewer runs in four of his last five outings.
Peña’s first-inning homer was originally a double, but the call was overturned by the umpires after video showed the ball hit a railing in left-center.

Lucas Spence extended the lead with a second-inning RBI double, but Kyle Stowers got the Marlins within one in the fifth with an RBI double.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Walbert Ureña pitched six innings of one-run ball, Jorge Soler and Jo Adell each drove in two runs in a five-run first inning and Los Angeles extended their winning streak to three games with a victory over St. Louis.
The Angels banged out five of their 10 hits in the first inning. Soler hit a two-run double and Adell added a two-run homer for the Angels, who have their longest winning streak since a four-game run from June 9-13.

Ureña (6-7) allowed up six hits, struck out five and walked one while lowering his ERA to 2.78 for the season and 2.49 in 14 starts since May 1. Making his first start since the All-Star break, the rookie right-hander threw 16 pitches of 100 mph or more, including hitting a season-high 101.5-mph sinker to Jordan Walker, in the first. He had thrown 16 pitches of 100 mph or more — total — in 81 1/3 innings of his first 17 games.
St. Louis, which has lost 10 of its last 14 games, scored its only run on JJ Wetherholt’s RBI fielder’s-choice grounder in the fifth.
Angels reliever Mitch Farris struck out two in 1 1/3 innings. Chase Silseth got the final two outs in the eighth, and Ryan Zeferjahn struck out three of five batters in a scoreless ninth.

SEATTLE (AP) — Eugenio Suárez homered against his former team and Chase Burns pitched five scoreless innings as Cincinnati beat Seattle.
Suárez, who played parts of three seasons for the Mariners, drilled a first-pitch fastball from starter Luis Castillo for a solo shot to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Suárez tied Eric Davis for 10th place on Cincinnati’s career home run list with his 203rd in a Reds uniform.
Burns (12-1), who agreed to a $105 million, seven-year contract on Saturday, gave up just three hits, struck out six and walked one. The Mariners advanced a runner into scoring position only twice against the All-Star right-hander.
Cincinnati struck first on a leadoff home run by Elly De La Cruz, the eighth of his career. The Reds tacked on insurance runs with a sacrifice fly by Sal Stewart in the fifth and a solo homer by Nathaniel Lowe in the ninth.

DIAMONDBACKS 6, ATHLETICS 5, 10 INNINGS
PHOENIX (AP) — Ildemaro Vargas hit a game-winning single in the 10th inning and Arizona rallied to beat the Athletics after blowing a two-run lead with two outs in the ninth.
Arizona led 4-2 heading into the ninth and closer Paul Sewald appeared poised to close it out after getting the first two outs. But then Donovan Walton tripled and Jacob Wilson tied it with a two-run homer to left field, his seventh of the season.

The A’s went up 5-4 on Jonah Heim’s sacrifice fly off Kevin Ginkel (4-3) in the 10th, but Luis Medina (2-2) walked two in the bottom half to load the bases with nobody out.
Nolan Arenado tied it with a bloop single and Vargas hit a chopper through a hole on the left side for Arizona’s seventh win in nine games.
