Legion baseball teams across Wisconsin are competing in regional tournaments to earn their spots in various state tournaments.
In the A Regional tournament hosted in Westby, the Westby/Coon Valley Bandits faced off against G-E-T Post 354 in a semifinal matchup. The game was competitive from the start, with Westby scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, including two runs on a Beckett Brueggen single. G-E-T Post 354 responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back walks with the bases loaded. Each team added one run in the second inning, leaving the Bandits ahead 5-3.
The Bandits extended their lead in the top of the third inning when Micah Larson drove in a pair on an RBI single to make it 7-3. However, Post 354 mounted a comeback with five runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-7 lead. The Bandits refused to quit, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning to retake the lead at 9-8.
The game remained tight through the later innings. Westby held a 10-9 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with Post 354 loading the bases with two outs. The Bandits secured the victory without allowing Post 354 to capitalize, advancing to Saturday’s championship game.
In another A Regional tournament held in Stoddard, Prairie du Chien Post 68 and Gays Mills Post 208 both advanced to the championship game. Since Prairie du Chien is hosting the A State Tournament, both teams will automatically advance to the state competition.
The AAA Regional tournament in Tomah saw Post 201 defeat La Crosse Post 52 by a score of 11-4, earning Post 201 a spot in the AAA State Tournament, which will be held in Marshfield.
In the AA Regional tournament in West Salem, Sparta Post 100 and West Salem Post 51 will meet in Saturday’s championship game. Due to the double elimination format being used, Sparta will need to win twice to advance to the state tournament, while West Salem only needs one victory to secure their spot.
