Texas State baseball coach Steven Trout‘s four-year contract extension will pay him an annual salary of $300,000 through the end of the 2030 season, according to documents obtained by the American-Statesman through a records request.
Trout’s buyout starts at $17,500 and is multiplied by the number of months remaining on the contract. If Trout leaves Texas State for another job, he’s obligated to pay the university $225,000, which decreases to $150,000 if he departs after July 1, 2027 and to $75,000 if he leaves after July 1, 2029.
The contract expires June 30, 2030. The university announced the extension last week.
Trout’s salary increases by $10,000 starting Sept. 1, 2027, and he could earn more incentives depending on how far the Bobcats make it in the postseason. If Texas State wins a regular-season championship, a conference tournament, wins 40 games or earns an at-large NCAA Tournament bid, the coach receives a $15,000 pay bump for every year remaining on his contract. He receives a $50,000 raise for a super regional appearance and $100,000 if the team makes the College World Series.
