The Los Angeles Angels’ army of injured players is set to shrink, as the Angels transferred Travis d’Arnaud, Adam Frazier and Sebastián Rivero to Single-A to continue their rehab assignments.

All three of d’Arnaud, Frazier and Rivero began their rehab assignment with the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees, so the transfer—at least at a glance—is rather questionable. The reason for the transfer likely isn’t due to a setback, rather geographical proximity.
Salt Lake heads on the road for a six-game series against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys in Texas this week, so having their players nearing the end of their rehab assignments remain in Southern California is advantageous.
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, located about an hour away from Angel Stadium by car, will play a six-game series at home this weekend against the San Jose Giants, allowing the three major leaguers some time to ramp back up to speed without being too separated from the MLB team.

d’Arnaud first landed on the injured list at the beginning of May, missing the most time of any of the three players, and has struggled to get back into the swing of things on his rehab assignment.
The catcher has five hits in 18 at-bats, only one of which went for extra bases. He has a .649 OPS since beginning his rehab assignment a couple of weeks ago. He similarly struggled in MLB this year, posting a .614 OPS through 14 games.
Frazier has also played six games since beginning his rehab assignment, and is batting .217 in Triple-A with two RBIs and a .584 OPS. With the Angels this year, he had one homer and six RBIs with a .630 OPS through 41 games. With he and d’Arnaud both headed to Single-A, a return is likely on the horizon.
Unlike the other two, Rivero is yet to play a game on his rehab assignment, so he isn’t likely to make his return by the end of the Angels’ six-game home stand. He landed on the injured list at the beginning of June with a left hamate fracture after posting a .569 OPS in 24 big league games.
