WHITTEMORE – Whittemore-Prescott put up a big offensive performance in their win over Mio earlier in the day. The Cardinals’ bats unfortunately went cold in the Division 4 district championship game against Alcona at AuGres on Friday, falling 14-2.
The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first, one in the second and three each in the third and fourth to take control early on. The Cardinals had their only runs with one each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Will LaFranca took the loss for the Cardinals, he went two and two-third innings and struck out two batters. Cooper Nimeth went four and one-third innings in relief, and he struck out five batters.
Alcona’s Vinny Mahalak got the win, going six innings and giving up two earned runs on three hits, 10 strikeouts and four walks. Gavin Dellar threw the final inning, striking out two batters as well.
Nimeth, Landon Aiello and Emerson Sheehan had one hit each for the Cardinals, with Bodie Lintz and Sheehan scoring their runs.
W-P reached the championship game thanks to their 15-4 victory over Mio in the semifinals earlier in the day.
The Cardinals took a 5-0 lead through two innings and put up a big four run frame in the fourth.
Lintz threw all six innings to get the win, giving up four runs on seven hits, nine strikeouts and two walks.
Aiello led the offense with three hits and Aiden Bell, LaFranca and Blake Miller all had two hits apiece.
