Starting Aug. 10, former Fitchburg State baseball assistant Dan Briand will have a pair of new jobs.

Briand, who served with the Falcons for a pair of seasons, was named Northern Essex Community College assistant athletic director and head baseball coach on Monday.

He was an assistant coach at Fitchburg State in 2016 and 2017, working with head coach Kevin Barnaby. In his time with the team, the Falcons went 32-40-1.

“I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to lead the Knights baseball program and join the department as an assistant athletic director,” Briand said in a release from the school.

Briand has 15 total years of collegiate coach under his belt, including the last nine seasons as head coach at Anna Maria. He is the Amcats’ all-time wins leader with 163 and his teams qualified for the postseason each season with the exception of the COVID shortened season in 2020.

Additionally, Brian guided three players to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year honors along with two GNAC Pitchers of the Year and three Rookies of the Year. Further, he guided 16 players to D3Baseball.com All Region, 10 Rawlings/ABCA All Region, 44 All Conference selections, while 74 student athletes earned Academic All-Conference honors.

On the administrative side, Briand served at Anna Maria as equipment manager, student employee supervisor and as the event manager for home football and hockey games.

In addition to coaching at Anna Maria and Fitchburg State, Briand a pair of two-year gigs at Becker and Roger Williams.

He is a graduate of Becker College where he was a four-year member of the baseball program including a two-time captain while also earning First Team All-Conference honors as a senior in 2009.
