The annual mass roster shakeup took place on Wednesday, as the Padres needed to fall under the minor league roster limit. Here is the complete list of moves, by affiliate.
Triple-A El Paso: RHP Andrew Thurman promoted from Double-A, RHP Michael Flynn released.
Double-A San Antonio: C Oswaldo Linares, C Anthony Vilar, 3B Jack Costello assigned to San Antonio; C Chris Sargent, C Colton Vincent, RHP Andrew Dalquist released; OF Kai Murphy placed on development list
High-A Fort Wayne: RHP Luis German, RHP Clark Candiotti, SS Zach Evans released; RHP Isaiah Lowe, RHP Sean Barnett, RHP Jeferson Villabona, LHP Diego Serna, C Yoiber Ocopio, IF Bradley Frye, OF Conner Westenburg assigned to Fort Wayne. LHP Diego Serna was also placed on the 60-day IL.
Single-A Lake Elsinore: RHP Vicarte Domingo, RHP Carson Swilling, LHP Cal Riehl, OF George Bilecki released. El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 7-5 vs Reno) (44-65 on the season)
Carlos Rodriguez – 4-for-5, Triple, Double, Three Runs
Nick Solak – 2-for-5, Two Singles, Three RBI
Jagger Haynes – 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 2 K (80 pitches – 48 strikes)
Left-hander Jagger Haynes pitched his longest Triple-A outing in his third start, pitching four innings of four-run baseball. The left-hander generated two strikeouts, with an even 4-4 split of fly outs and ground outs. While his stuff did not get the best grades, Haynes was able to work through traffic. Right-hander David Morgan threw one inning, allowing two runs. The right-hander averaged 98.1 mph on his four-seam fastball, maxing out at 99.2 mph. Logan Gillaspie threw three innings of one-run baseball in relief, striking out two.
Carlos Rodriguez had four hits, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. The Chihuahuas’ right fielder scored three of the team’s five runs. Marcos Castanon went 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI in the contest, starting at second base. Ethan Salas reached base for a second straight game, hitting a single. Nick Solak hit two singles in the game, driving in three runs for El Paso.
San Antonio Missions (Won 5-3 vs Springfield) (46-58 on the season)
Jake Cunningham – 2-for-3, Double, Single, Two RBI
Braedon Karpathios – 2-for-3, Double, Single, RBI
Ian Koenig – 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 8 K (90 pitches – 59 strikes)
Right-hander Ian Koenig opened August with a quality start, his first since July 18. The right-hander struck out eight batters against Springfield, generating 11 swings and misses. Koenig also generated one double play in the contest. Igor Gil pitched two-thirds of an inning, not allowing a run. Garrett Hawkins threw one inning, allowing a solo home run to Rainiel Rodriguez in the eighth inning. Josh Mallitz picked up a four-out save, his fourth save of the season.
Jake Cunningham drove in two runs for the Missions on Wednesday. The Missions’ DH reached base three times, scoring two runs in the contest. Braedon Karpathios also had two hits, hitting an RBI double in the first inning. Karpathios also reached base three times, though he only scored one run. Carson Tucker hit two singles in the game, scoring one run. Ryan Jackson hit an RBI single in the first inning, and Albert Fabian’s eighth-inning sacrifice fly scored an insurance run.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 11-1 vs West Michigan) (45-57 on the season)
Ryan Wideman – 3-for-4, Three Singles, RBI
Kasen Wells – 1-for-3, Single, Run Scored
Winyer Chourio – 2.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 2 K (69 pitches – 37 strikes)
Fort Wayne welcomed in new players, but the West Michigan offense overpowered their pitching staff. Winyer Chourio pitched 2.2 innings, striking out two batters. The right-hander issued four walks and allowed five hits. Chourio has struggled with command and location since making the jump to High-A, pitching to a 1.92 WHIP. Javier Chacon allowed two runs in 2.1 innings, and Jeferson Villabona threw two innings of two-run ball in his return to the TinCaps. Sean Barnett threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in his first TinCaps pitching appearance since 2025, and Isaiah Lowe threw one inning of one-run ball in the ninth. The offense was quieted by southpaw Ben Jacobs, scoring one run all game. Ryan Wideman led the offense with three hits, driving in the team’s only run with an RBI single in the third inning. Kasen Wells scored the TinCaps’ only run, hitting a single and scoring a run. Carlos E. Rodriguez hit a single in the game, and Conner Westenburg made his TinCap debut with a pinch-hit walk.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 3-2 vs Ontario) (54-50 on the season)
Yimy Tovar – 1-for-1, Two-Run Double
Jorge Quintana – 1-for-3, Triple, Run Scored
Cameron Nohos – 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 7 K (91 pitches – 57 strikes)
Right-hander Cameron Nohos pitched a quality start for the first time in his professional career. The tall right-hander struck out a career-high seven batters, walking just two batters. When Nohos can repeat his mechanics, he has the potential to be dominant. Joseph Herrera threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, striking out three. Brandon Langley recorded the final out on a flyout. The Storm offense combined for three hits and no runs over the first eight innings, with Jorge Quintana’s triple being their only base hit in the first eight frames. Dawson Willis doubled in the ninth ,and Jorge Quintana walked before a pinch-hit two-run double by Yimy Tovar put the tying run in scoring position. Truitt Madonna then walked, bringing up Jesmaylin Arias. Arias, who went 2-for-3 to that point in the game, grounded out to end the contest. Nu’u Contrades went 0-for-3 with a walk in his Lake Elsinore debut.
