After a marathon of a day on Tuesday, Wednesday was much more smooth in terms of baseball operations. The game started on time and it was beautiful weather in Chickamauga.Â
It would be an even prettier outcome for the Gordon Lee baseball team.
Taking on Vidalia in a deciding game three, the Trojans were able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second.
The Indians quickly tied things in the top of the third but Gordon Lee would snatch the lead right back by capitalizing on a big mistake.
A missed flyball helped the Trojans score a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead. A lead they would keep the rest of the game.
Jackson Scali pitched a gem and almost went the distance. He was relieved by Kaden Ellis with one out in the seventh. Ellis was able to get the game’s final two outs thanks in part to a runner’s interference call that stumped the Indians momentum.
Gordon Lee is back in the state championship game for the first time since 2021. The Trojans will take on Pepperell in a best-of-three series.
The championship series begins on Monday with a doubleheader that starts at 5 p.m. The games will take place at AdventHealth Stadium in Rome, GA.Â
Gordon Lee is in search of their fifth state championship in program history and first since 2019.
