DYERSVILLE, Iowa — Major League Baseball will return to Iowa next Thursday when the Minnesota Twins take on the Philadelphia Phillies at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, marking the third MLB game ever played at the site.
The first two games were played at a temporary stadium, which was later torn down to make way for a new permanent ballpark. The upgraded site seats up to 8,000 fans.
Dyersville officials hope the new facility will bring Major League Baseball back to the site every summer.
Jeremiah Yolkut, MLB’s senior vice president of global events, said the new venue strikes a balance between tradition and modern convenience.
“I think it now is sort of the perfect blend of the nostalgia of the movie and being on a farm watching a baseball game but having some of the creature comforts that I think people seek out when they’re coming to big events,” Yolkut said. “Whether it’s the players who now have permanent locker room space, the media who will have a much more complete build-out in the press box, or the fans that are coming to the site.”
