The red-hot Brewers carry a season-high eight game winning streak into today’s game against the Cincinnati Reds. Milwaukee has now won eight games in a row for the first time since August 2023.
Today’s pitching matchup is a battle of the aces, as Freddy Peralta will get the ball for the Brewers. The veteran right-hander threw a season-high 108 pitches during his last outing. Despite a couple of stressful innings, Peralta made it through five innings while allowing three earned runs in a game the Brewers would go on to win. He sports a 2.77 ERA and 1.17 WHIP so far this season.
Facing off against Peralta is RHP Hunter Greene, who Cincinnati will tab for his eleventh start of the season. Greene, a 2024 All-Star, has been pitching even better than he was at this time last year. The flame-thrower currently sports a 2.63 ERA, well under his 3.34 ERA before the All-Star break in 2024. He’s been tagged for more than two runs just twice all season. For more on today’s starting pitchers, check out Harrison’s series preview.
The most recent NL Player of the Week, Christian Yelich, has been unstoppable recently. Yelich, hitting third tonight, is slashing .474/.524/.947 with three home runs over the last week. He’s hitting .450 over his last ten games with six home runs and an OPS of 1.425.
Good Baseball Player Sal Frelick, hitting fifth, has also been scorching hot. Frelick went 2-for-4 last night and is now 10-for-24 over the last week. It’s seemed like he’s always on base recently, with at least one hit in eight of his last nine games.
Jackson Chourio isn’t far behind, either — 9-for-24 with two doubles and and a home run in the last week. Nine hitter Joey Ortiz’s stats still look pretty abysmal, but he’s been passing the eye test at the plate recently. Ortiz has been making harder contact and worked a couple of walks yesterday — including one with the bases loaded.
Finally, a quick update on catching prospect Jeferson Quero (MLB No. 41) from Adam McCalvy:
The Brewers announce that Jeferson Quero (No. 2 on @MLBPipeline’s Brewers Top 30 and No. 41 overall) has been reinstated from the Minor League IL and moved up to Triple-A Nashville, where he will catch Brandon Woodruff’s rehab start tonight against Gwinnett.

Quero will catch Brandon Woodruff in what should be Woody’s final rehab start. For more notes on Woodruff’s recovery, check out the Timber Rattlers section of this week’s Minor League Roundup.
