PHILADELPHIA — It’s a Friday night at Citizens Bank Park, but the Phillies won’t be lighting the city up.
Instead, the Phillies have called an audible and instead of wearing their City Connect uniforms, they will don their primary red pinstripes. Bryce Harper confirmed as such to OnPattison.
It makes sense for the Phillies to wear red pinstripes Friday because they are putting Chase Utley onto the Wall of Fame. The pinstripes were the primary home threads for Utley’s entire Phillies career, which went from 2003-2015. The pinstripes have been the main home uniforms since 1992.
Utley, of course, never wore the City Connect uniforms, which the Phillies introduced in 2024. This is the second time that the Phillies have opted to ditch the City Connects on a Friday game since they were introduced, as they wore red pinstripes on July 4, 2025, which was a day game at Citizens Bank Park despite being on a Friday.
It’s unclear what the future holds for the City Connect uniforms, which have, at best, received mixed reviews during their three seasons. Teams typically wear City Connects for a minimum of three years. Some have worn a design longer than that, but others have retired one CC for a new design after three seasons.
