The A’s and general manager David Forst are breaking up.
After 27 seasons with the same organization, Forst agreed to mutually part ways with the team that moved from Oakland to West Sacramento temporarily prior to the 2025 MLB season.
Assistant GM Dan Feinstein will be the A’s interim general manager for the remainder of the 2026 season, the team announced.

“David has been an integral part of the A’s and our success for nearly three decades,” A’s owner and managing partner John Fisher said in a press release. “His leadership, dedication, and commitment to this team have helped shape our baseball operations department and position us for the future. We are grateful for everything David has done for our organization.”
“It was truly an honor to spend the last 27 years with the A’s, especially the last 11 as the GM,” Forst said via the same release. “This organization is full of incredibly talented, devoted, and good people, and I am lucky to have worked alongside them for so long.”

Forst joined the Oakland Athletics as a front office scouting executive in 2000, remaining with the club under then-GM Billy Beane during their run of American League West dominance that was chronicled in the book “Moneyball” and the screen adaptation of the same name.
A Harvard graduate, Forst joined the A’s immediately after his brief independent league playing career ended.
