Tampa Bay enters Seattle at 68-46 after winning seven of 10 and sweeping Colorado. The Rays scored 26 runs during that three-game series, then received Thursday’s open date before traveling west. Seattle sits 56-60 after losing two of three to Detroit, including shutout defeats of 8-0 and 11-0. The Mariners have scored 458 runs with a .230 team average, while Tampa Bay owns 510 runs and a .258/.329/.403 line. Seattle rested Cal Raleigh, Josh Naylor, and Brendan Donovan Thursday, so its regular lineup should return against Drew Rasmussen. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the Tampa Bay Rays.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Rasmussen brings a 10-5 record, 2.91 ERA, and 0.93 WHIP into another favorable assignment. He dominated Chicago for six scoreless innings last Saturday, recording 10 strikeouts while allowing four hits and one walk. His broader contact profile remains outstanding: 87.8 mph average exit velocity, 33.5% hard hits, 7% barrels, and a .276 xwOBA. Rasmussen has produced a 3.62 ERA and 1.04 WHIP across his last seven starts, with 38 strikeouts and only seven walks over 37⅓ innings. Seattle’s returning regulars raise the ceiling, but Raleigh’s .574 OPS and 12 homers have left the middle considerably less frightening than last season.
Logan Gilbert gives Seattle an equally credible path. He owns an 8-6 record and 3.46 ERA, while his last seven starts produced a 3.52 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts across 46 innings. Gilbert still misses bats with six pitches, particularly a splitter generating a 37.8% whiff rate and .188 xSLG. His four-seamer has been far less secure, allowing a .498 xSLG, 51.5% hard-hit rate, and seven homers. Tampa Bay’s lineup can punish that pitch through Junior Caminero, Jonathan Aranda, and Yandy DÃaz. Caminero enters with a .284 average, 33 homers, 71 RBI, and .932 OPS, including four homers across his last 10 games.
Seattle’s strongest counter begins with Gilbert’s length and the Rays’ uneven production away from Colorado. Tampa Bay batted only .232 across its last 10 despite going 7-3, and six of those games finished with three Rays runs or fewer. Gilbert’s splitter, changeup, and curveball have all limited opponents below a .300 expected slugging percentage. Julio RodrÃguez remains Seattle’s clearest offensive answer, batting .297 with two homers and six RBI across 10 games, including a .412 average during his last five. One Rasmussen fastball in RodrÃguez’s damage zone could decide a game carrying a total of seven.
Rays vs. Mariners pick, best bet
Tampa Bay’s full-game structure still looks stronger. The Rays strengthened their relief group by adding Tyler Wells, who arrived with a 2.67 ERA and 53 strikeouts across 54 innings. Seattle possesses quality late-inning pitching, but its bullpen absorbed six innings during Thursday’s blowout after Bryce Miller’s short outing. Cole Wilcox also left with oblique tightness, while Gabe Speier’s three-game suspension remains under appeal. Clear, dry conditions leave the roof eligible to remain open, with temperatures falling from the low 70s into the upper 60s.
Seattle’s -112 price depends heavily upon home field and Gilbert winning a narrow pitching duel. The Mariners have the thinner offense, the worse current form, and no clear starting-pitching advantage. Tampa Bay’s recent Colorado production requires context, but Caminero’s power run began long before that series. The total of seven leaves little room for a Rays run-line position, while the under at -119 asks both elite starters and both bullpens to remain almost spotless. The better team is available at plus money in a matchup between comparable starters.
Best bet: Rays moneyline (+104).
Projected score: Rays 4, Mariners 2.
Best bet: Rays (+105) at Mariners
