The Padres’ future, near and long-term, were on display Sunday in Reno.

Catcher Ethan Salas homered in a second consecutive game and right-hander Joe Musgrove pitched into the fourth inning in a rehab start in a 7-4 win over the host Aces.

Salas (1.086 OPS) drove in two runs on two hits, which included his second homer in nine games since his promotion. He is hitting .333/.419/.667 with 12 RBIs.

Catcher Blake Hunt (1.020 OPS) hit his ninth homer.

Center fielder Carlos Rodriguez (.802 OPS) drove in three runs on two hits.

Right-hander Jhony Brito (2-1, 2.37 ERA) followed Musgrove into the game and allowed two runs in 2 ⅔ innings.

El Paso is 47-66.

 

Notable

LHP Kruz Schoolcraft missed his last start with an ankle sprain, but he’s expected to return to low Single-A Lake Elsinore’s rotation on Friday. Schoolcraft had rolled his right ankle ahead of his bullpen on Tuesday. Last year’s first-rounder is 2-5 with a 5.56 ERA in 18 starts (68 IP) with the Storm.
RHP Michael Salina received positive news after meeting with Padres doctors after leaving Thursday’s start. Salina, who was recovering from Tommy John surgery when he was selected in the fourth round last year, will continue a throwing program.

LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (58-50)

Storm 5, Ontario 4: Nu’u Contrades (.850 OPS) walked off the game with a pinch-hit, RBI single. 3B Dawson Willis (.913 OPS) drove in two runs on two hits, including his fifth homer. CF Alex Conover (1.101 OPS) went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Willis and Qrey Lott (.778 OPS) both stole two bases.
