The Le Sueur Braves begin their playoff quest for the state tournament this Sunday August 9th at Bruce Frank Field vs Eagle Lake. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm. The winner will advance to play either Jordan or St.Benedict/Lonsdale next Thursday while the loser will play Tuesday in the eight team double elimination bracket. Four of the eight teams will qualify for state. The two teams split the season series with Eagle Lake winning 6-4 and Le Sueur getting their win by a score of 11-2 just a couple of weeks ago.

LSH Sr Legion Goes 1-2 in State
The Le Sueur Henderson Post 55/74 American Legion Senior team claimed fourth place in the state tournament this past weekend. The tournament was held at Minnewaksa High School and hosted by American Legion Posts Glenwood- Lowry.

Sleepy Eye
The first test of the tournament would be vs Sleepy Eye Post 7. LSH had lost to Post 7 8-3 earlier this season but at state things would prove to have a different result. Peyton Tellijohn got the start for LSH and showed to shut down the opposition all night long.
After a 1-2-3 top frame LSH would plate one across in the bottom of the first with the help of a Joe Lewis single that would bring in Jack Miller. Sleepy Eye would answer right back after a leadoff single and then a sacrifice bunt to place a runner at third base. A single would tie the game before Tellijohn could get out of the inning with a strikeout.
After a quiet inning and a half LSH would reclaim the lead in the 3rd after back to back walks and an error by the Sleepy Eye third baseman to make it a 2-1 advantage. Again the game would be scoreless again until the game got opened up in the 5th for LSH.

With one out, Tellijohn then Miller hit back to back doubles to make it 3-1. A Colton Wilson single would get another in to make it a 4-1 game after 5 innings of play. LSH would add three more in the 6th inning with a Griffin Feeney walk, a Gabe Roby hit by pitch and back to back singles from Tellijohn and Miller with the help of another error from Sleepy Eye to finally put the game out of reach. Tellijohn threw a complete game in the 7-1 win giving up five hits and striking out three while only allowing one earned run.
Ada
On Saturday the next opponent would be a solid Ada squad which from all knowledge had not been to a state legion tournament since 1987 when they were runner-up that season.
LSH was the away team for this game and despite a Colton Wilson double they were not able to get anything going in the inning. Feeney got the start on the mound and did not have the best of days. Ada got on the board first with a leadoff double then a single and a sac fly to make it 1-0.
After a 1-2-3 top of the 2nd Ada would score two more in the inning with the aid of two walks, a hit by pitch and a double to make it 3-0.
The story of the game offensively was leaving runners on base for LSH. In the game Post 55/74 left too many on and was not able to capitalize when needed to. Feeney would continue to struggle on the mound in the 3rd with three more hit by pitches and a single that would make the game 5-0.
Feeney eventually gave way to teammate Evan Hoffman in the 3rd and later Roby took over mound duties and despite holding Ada to no more runs in the contest LSH could not score a run until the 5th inning. That’s when Tellijohn with two outs had a double and three straight walks made things look positive for LSH but a Lewis ground ball would end any threat.
LSH lost to Ada 5-1 and now will play in the 3rd place game vs Parkers Prairie the next day on Sunday.
Parkers Prairie
In the 3rd place game Joe Lewis would get the start on the mound. He would lead things off with granting a four pitch walk, then balking before getting a ground ball to get his first out. But a sacrifice bunt that was executed perfectly put the opposition up 1-0.
Through the next three and a half innings neither team could get much for runners on base. Parker Prairie had one baserunner via an error and LSH would have two with singles from Feeney and Colton Wilson, but Wilson however was caught in a run down for the second out of the inning while trying to take off for second base.
Four straight singles and a sacrifice bunt put Parkers Prairie in the driver’s seat in the top of the 5th when they made the score now 4-0. Lewis would eventually get out of the inning but not before the damage was done.
Post 55/74 would however respond in the bottom half of the inning. With one out Dalton Wilson would reach with an error. A Feeney single and a Hoffman walk would load the bases for Roby who would walk and get an RBI single to put LSH on the board. Tellijohn would then hit a hard single to left and bring in two to make it a one run game.
LSH held their own in the top of the 6th and tried to put a threat together in the bottom of the 6th when Corbin Guggisburg led things off with a single however Lewis would bunt a ball straight up in the air to the pitcher allowing him to throw it back to first base for a double play.
Parkers Prairie would add one more in the 7th with help from an error from Feeney at first when the umpire claimed he took his foot off the bag and when a fly ball to right center field got dropped on a miscommunication to make the final being 5-3.
While the season might have come to an end, the LSH senior finished with a 19-9 overall record.
