BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A former Major League Baseball general manager says that the Baltimore Orioles could be the “headliner” of this year’s trade deadline.

Former Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden joined Foul Territory on Monday to discuss the Orioles, among a variety of other topics.

Bowden believes that Orioles general manager Mike Elias will have to have a good trade deadline to save his job.

“The headliner of this trade deadline – think of the Orioles. Ryan O’Hearn – he will be one of the best bats moved. Ryan Mountcastle with the power. Cedric Mullins – elite defensive centerfielder with speed and has 10 homers. Then you’ve got Zach Eflin, a free agent. You’ve got Charlie Morton whose pitching better. You’ve got Sugano whose pitching better. I mean, I just named six guys that they can trade – so, they’re like the Diamondbacks where they could clean up at this Trade Deadline,” Bowden said.

“[Mike Elias]’s job is on the line. He’s got to rebuild this thing quick. That’s the way I view it. He has to have a good deadline,” Bowden opined. “He has to put his team in good position. He makes some good trades at this deadline and you go to free agency, and sign a couple of good starters that are out there, he could fix this thing quickly, but I think his job is on the line.”

The Orioles are beginning a West Coast swing tonight against the Seattle Mariners at 9:40 p.m. E.T.
