The Chicago White Sox’s most notable fan is Pope Leo XIV, and the team plans to celebrate him on Tuesday.
The White Sox plan to give away limited-edition Pope Hats to fans in attendance for Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds. There will also be a fifth-inning “Peace Be With You” and a live mural painting celebrating the Pope’s fandom.
Pope Leo is the first American-born pope, and he happens to be from Chicago. He’s a long-time White Sox fan and even attended the team’s 2005 World Series against the Houston Astros.
He previously delivered a message to White Sox fans at Rate Field in June, and executive vice president Brooks Boyer told reporters, “He has an open invite to throw out a first pitch.”
There have been no details about Pope Leo throwing out the first pitch, but he’ll be celebrated by White Sox fans on Tuesday.
