The Florida State League and Minor League Baseball have named infielder Rafhlmil Torres as the league’s Player of the Week for August 3rd through the 9th.

Rafhlmil Torres began the week by watching Tuesday’s game between the Daytona Tortugas and St. Lucie Mets get rained out. On Wednesday the two teams played a doubleheader. In the first game, Torres was the starting second baseman and went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. The second game saw him start at shortstop before moving over to second base late in the game. In that game he picked up three more hits, two more runs scored, and he drove in a run.

Thursday was another big day at the plate as Torres went 3-5 with three runs batted in and he scored two more runs. On Friday he went 0-4, marking the low point of the series. Saturday rolled around and there was another doubleheader scheduled. Like the one on Wednesday, Torres started both games and one was at second and the other was at shortstop. In game one he went 2-3 with a double. The second game was even better as he went 3-3 with a walk, double, hit by pitch, and he scored three runs.

That would end the week for Torres as he got Sunday’s game off. Still, he played in six games during the week and went 13-23 with three doubles, a walk, nine runs scored, and he had four runs batted in. That was good for a .565 batting average, a .577 on-base percentage, and a .696 slugging percentage.

During the series his hitting streak came to an end, but going back to July 25th he’s been on an absolute heater of a run. In those 13 games he’s gone 25-53 with five doubles, a homer, 10 runs batted in, 18 runs scored, and just four strikeouts. Torres had hits in 12 of those 13 games. Nine of those games were multi-hit games.
