Tristan Largent went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs to power Verona to a 14-0 seven-inning win over Wiota in a quarterfinal in the Home Talent League Western Section playoffs on Sunday, Aug. 9, at Stampfl Field.
Verona (14-1) pounded out 12 hits in six at-bats. Largent had an RBI double in the Cavaliers’ three-run first inning. He added a two-run single in the sixth.
Grady Miller went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Brady Patten finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Colby Davis went 2-for-4 and knocked in four runs. Justin Scanlon scored three runs.
A trio of Verona pitchers combined to toss a four-hit shutout. Patten earned the win after tossing five shutout innings, while striking out three and walking one.
Verona will host Belleville in a Western Section semifinal on Sunday, Aug. 16.
The Cavaliers knocked off Fort Atkinson in a Home Talent Night League slugfest 15-9 on Thursday, Aug. 6, at Jones Park in Fort Atkinson.
Largent went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Largent hit a three-run home run to right field to give Verona a 3-0 lead. Verona scored on an error and a single by James Rae in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Patten finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Rae drove in two runs and scored two runs. Alex Schoepp scored three runs.
The Cavaliers used six pitchers. Patten pitched two innings and gave up one earned run on three hits, while striking out two and walking one. Scheopp struck out four in two innings in relief.
Verona improved to 8-0 in the Central Night League standings.
