The Boston Red Sox have had many players come and go over the past few seasons. Some stayed for a few weeks, while others stayed for years.

Former Red Sox fan-favorite Rob Refsnyder was one of those guys who stayed for a few years. Refsnyder, now 35 years old, was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2012 MLB Draft. He made his debut for New York in 2015.

Refsnyder eventually joined the Red Sox in 2022. He was mainly used as a platoon bat and could really swing it against left-handed pitching. The California native slashed .276/.364/.440 with 27 home runs and 48 doubles.

Joining the Seattle Mariners this past offseason, Refsnyder struggled a ton, hitting just .140 with 37 strikeouts and an OPS+ of 34 in 53 games. He was released by the Mariners on Aug. 4.

While there was interest in the veteran around the league, Brian McTaggart reported on Monday night that he decided to retire rather than continue playing.

It comes as a bit of a surprise that Refsnyder is walking away from the game when he still seemingly had something left in the tank last year for the Red Sox, posting a 131 OPS+ and .838 OPS.

However, he had a successful career and was loved in Boston.
