The Baltimore Orioles signaled that times are changing with their trade of Adley Rutschman at the MLB trade deadline. They got a nice haul for Rutschman, but sending him to a division rival stings.
Simply losing him would’ve stung, but seeing Rutschman join the rival Boston Red Sox should tell the fans that times are changing in Baltimore. This iteration of the club is undergoing some significant changes.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes that Jackson Holliday, another core player from the Orioles rumored to be available for trade, could actually be dealt this upcoming offseason. The reason why is simple: the Orioles might want to change.
Orioles could trade Jackson Holliday in search of change
“Jackson Holliday was an unexpected addition to the pre-deadline rumor mill, but after the Orioles sent Adley Rutschman to the Red Sox in a surprise blockbuster, it’s clear change is coming in Baltimore,” Reuter writes.
Holliday is just 22 years old, and under club control through the 2030 MLB season. There is very little reason to trade Holliday away right now.
That is, if the Orioles actually believe in his talent, and also believe that the potentially massive return they could get wouldn’t be worth it.
Baltimore could get a haul for Holliday in a trade, and while seeing him go might sting, almost as bad as trading Rutschman, the haul might be franchise-altering in a good way.
Since he’s so young and has flashed some immense potential, there’s bound to be a club that is willing to pay a high price for Holliday in a trade.

He has a .749 OPS this season with a 113 OPS+ in what’s been the best offensive season of his career so far. It’s only been 187 at-bats, but it’s the exact kind of season that the Orioles have been looking for.
Amid the changes coming to the organization, with the Rutschman trade the biggest signal that the Orioles won’t act like before, Holliday could be on his way out as part of that change.
He was a name coming up in trade rumors ahead of the deadline this season, and while those rumors might not have been going much of anywhere, the offseason could be a different story.
With more interesting clubs and teams more willing to shake up their roster, especially for cheap, young talent like Holliday, the Orioles might have a real opportunity to trade Holliday this upcoming offseason.
Reuter believes there’s a chance that the Orioles trade Holliday, and while the odds overall might not be high, it’s at least something that Orioles fans should keep in mind as the remainder of the 2026 season unfolds and the offseason begins.
