Spotswood High School alum Witt Scafidi is headed west for his final season of college baseball.
Scafidi, a 6-foot catcher from Penn Laird, announced on Instagram that he is transferring from William & Mary to California.
He will join the Golden Bears after spending the past three seasons as a mainstay in the Tribe’s lineup.
Scafidi is coming off the best season of his college career. As a redshirt junior in 2026, he appeared in 42 games and made 36 starts at catcher and designated hitter, batting .338 with 45 hits, eight doubles, three home runs and 32 RBIs.
He also drew 14 walks and posted a .416 on-base percentage.
Scafidi recorded his first career four-hit game and scored twice in a victory over Binghamton on Feb. 21. He went 3-for-3 with three runs against Lafayette and added a two-hit performance against nationally ranked Virginia.
Scafidi hit a three-run home run to lead William & Mary past North Carolina A&T on March 20. He later delivered a game-tying, two-run single in the ninth inning to spark a comeback victory at Elon.
One of Scafidi’s most productive stretches came during a three-game sweep of North Carolina A&T in late April. He totaled six hits and 11 RBIs during the series, highlighted by his first career grand slam as part of a five-RBI performance.
Scafidi also went 3-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs against George Mason in early May.
His 2025 season was limited to nine games because of an injury. Scafidi made eight starts and hit .276 with one home run and three RBIs before the injury.
As a sophomore in 2024, Scafidi appeared in 22 games and made 14 starts behind the plate. He finished the season with a .481 on-base percentage, drew 13 walks and recorded an 11-game reached-base streak.
Before arriving at William & Mary, Scafidi played his freshman season at Bryant & Stratton College. He earned second-team all-region honors at catcher after batting .321 with eight doubles, six home runs, 24 RBIs, 36 runs scored and 13 stolen bases.
Scafidi will now conclude his collegiate career with a California program that competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
