KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Another member of the Kansas City Royals’ infield core is expected to begin his return toward play on Wednesday.
Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia is expected to begin a rehab assignment with the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Wednesday, the team announced Tuesday night.
Garcia was placed on the injured list with a left hand muscle strain on June 23. The injury had bothered him throughout the season, with manager Matt Quatraro saying foul balls were bothering Garcia earlier in the year.
The rehab assignment begins a day after Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino was sent to Triple-A as he attempts to return from a right wrist injury.
This season, Garcia has a .261 average with 3 home runs and 30 RBI. The 26-year-old signed a long-term contract extension with the Royals prior to the year after being named an All-Star for the first time in 2025.
