Vladimir Guerrero Jr. mocks himself after hitting a single

Guerrero poked fun at himself Wednesday night by pretending a routine single was a milestone hit worthy of the ball being taken out of the game, asking for it to be authenticated.

During a plate appearance in the third inning against the Red Sox, Guerrero hit a soft single into centre field. Upon reaching first base, he signalled to a Red Sox player that he wanted the ball so it could be taken out of the game.

This is often done when a player hits a milestone or a record is broken. The Red Sox player obliged and threw the ball to Guerrero, who was standing at first base. Keeping a straight face, he examined the ball and then threw it into the Blue Jays dugout.

The ball ended up getting to the dugout, where it was put on a shelf. Shortstop Andres Gimenez was seen laughing at Guerrero’s joke.

Even Blue Jays broadcasters Dan Shulman and Joe Siddall were confused, initially wondering what the milestone was. They quickly realized Guerrero was just making fun of himself.

Guerrero’s offensive woes have been well documented this season.

Heading into Wednesday’s game, Guerrero was batting .262 with seven home runs, 46 RBIs and a .695 OPS. His power numbers remain well below expectations for one of baseball’s biggest stars. In 2025, Guerrero hit 23 home runs with an .848 OPS and then led the Blue Jays to a magical run in the post-season, hitting eight home runs in 18 games while posting a ridiculous 1.289 OPS.
