PITTSBURGH (KLTV) – Former Hallsville Bobcat Justin Slaten has been placed on the injury list following an arm injury that has shown up throughout the season.
In an interview with MLB, Slaten discussed the injury publicly for the first time. He said he has been dealing with pain in his elbow and forearm on his throwing arm. Slaten said that it has flared up a few times throughout the year, including the recent series against Toronto, but efforts by trainers and management allowed him to partially recover throughout the season.
“I was feeling it in Toronto but we were able to get an outing out of it,” Slaten said in the interview. “The next day was pretty tough, that last day in Toronto was pretty sore.”
Slaten said that in Saturday’s game against the Pirates he warmed up as if he was going to play, but the pain in his arm ultimately forced him and the team to treat the injury more seriously.
“It’s better for me, for the team and for the guys in the bullpen to just go ahead and get this cleaned up, get it fixed, and be ready to go down the stretch,” Slaten said.
Slaten said there has not been any significant testing required so far in his treatment, but visiting with the team doctor in Boston after they return could change that.
The Red Sox have placed Slaten on the 15-day injury list, retroactive to Aug. 12.
